I started working in a business similar to Osterville
Fish when I was
about 16 and stayed with it for about four years. I then left to start a
career framing houses for a small Cape Cod company and it was at that time
that I realized that I wanted to eventually own my own business.
I went back to working for my old employer a few nights a week and eventually
learned of a fish market/restaurant that was for sale in Osterville. After
much research and nail biting, my grandparents helped me secure a loan and
my wife and I purchased the business on November 19, 1998 . We soon realized
that good, trustworthy help was almost impossible to find so in 2000 I decided
to take on a partner. Debbie Holbert had been my manager back in my teen
years and I knew she was someone I could trust and who knew the business
as well as I did.
Debbie
and I also used our extensive catering knowledge
to start our own clambake
company that same year called Clambakes,
Etc. and recently purchased
our second storefront in Barnstable
Harbor aptly
named “Osterville
Fish Too”.
When I first bought Osterville
Fish, I got a crash course in owning a perishable,
retail business. It is always a challenge to be committed to quality and dedicated
to always serving the finest possible seafood. Debbie and I work very hard
to always order only what is needed for that day, we realize that the shelf
life on seafood is a short one.
We have always tried to build a fun, friendly work atmosphere and have
always felt our customers are our number one priority. We would like everyone
to know that when shopping in our stores, there is always an owner available
for any questions or concerns.
Debbie and I know there are a lot of choices when it comes to buying seafood
so we always do what we can to keep our product the freshest available and
to keep our prices fair. Cape Cod is a tough place to build a business and
we realize that our success depends on our customers. Though it may sound
old fashioned, we promise to always strive to keep our customers happy and
to always have what they may need, we truly believe this is what good business
is based on.
